2025 Graduation

On Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 2 pm, the Beresford School District recognized 59 graduating seniors. Principal Dr. Renee Anderson presided over the ceremony. The Beresford High School choir performed Matters of Kindness by Kealey Kristofferson. The Beresford High School band performed I See Colors by Pinkzebra in addition to the traditional processional and recession selections. During the ceremony, Kylie Mockler (Student Body President), Elena Andrews (Valedictorian), and Grace Norling (Salutatorian) delivered messages of hope and resiliency to all in attendance.

Twenty-three Beresford High School seniors earned a South Dakota Board of Regents' Scholar Diploma. Eight seniors graduated with Highest Honors (4.00 & Above GPA), 18 students graduated with High Honors (3.50-3.99 GPA), and 15 seniors graduated with Honors (3.00-3.49 GPA).

Watchdog Hall of Fame

The eighth Watchdog Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held Saturday September 27, 2025 at 7 pm (Bridges at Beresford). At 6 pm, inductees, friends, family, and community members will partake in a catered banquet.

On behalf of the Beresford School District, Watchdog Foundation, Beresford Area Arts, and Beresford Athletic Booster Club are excited to welcome the following individuals into the Watchdog Hall of Fame: Dr. Kristin Olbertson (Academics), John and Sandy Fahlberg (Fine Arts), Mr. Kyle McKelvey (Athletics), Mr. Wayne Haensel (Athletics), and Mr. Kevin Nelson (Distinguished Service).

Shanna Rae Christensen Memorial Scholarship 

The Watchdog Foundation Board is pleased to announce that Ethan Hauck, Cooper Nelson, and Grace Norling earned a Shanna Rae Christensen Memorial Scholarship.

The David and Susan Christensen family, in memory of their daughter Shanna Rae, set up a special scholarship fund called the Shanna Rae Christensen Memorial Scholarship. The fund agreement was set up with the South Dakota Community Foundation as a sub-fund of the Watchdog Foundation and an affiliated fund of the Beresford Area Foundation. The scholarship is for Beresford High School seniors whose intended plans for post-high study are in the area of special education, rehabilitation, or nursing. The senior must have two letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to character and activity involvement. The senior must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, demonstrate good moral character, and be involved in the community, church and/or school activities. Work and/or volunteer experience with special needs children is preferred but not required.

Watchdog Foundation Grants

The vision of the Watchdog Foundation is Building the future of Beresford, together. Our mission is to assist and advance our community's pursuit of excellence, create lifelong connections, and build strong and mutually beneficial ties between the Beresford School District, the community, and its diverse alumni. This year, the Watchdog Foundation awarded $8,000 worth of "Innovative Education Grants." Grants were awarded to the following:

Mrs. Donna Neuman earned a $ 2,500 grant for the Watchdog Robotics program. The grant application will help the team purchase a 3D printer and 3D printer supplies for Robotic Competitions. 

Mr. Jared Olson earned a $1,500 grant for Dawgbone Entertainment to purchase audio-visual equipment. The equipment helps students produce broadcasts of fine arts, athletic, and academic events. 

Mrs. Shellie Pratt earned a $1,100 grant for the HOSA program. The grant funds will help Emma Andrews travel to the National HOSA convention in Nashville, Tennessee. 

Mrs. Bridget Twedt earned a $2,900 grant to help purchase Laser and CNC technology.

FFA State CDEs Convention

The Beresford FFA had a successful year at the State FFA CDE convention.The chapter earned a National Chapter Award, students earned scholarships, state officer positions were selected, competitions took place, awards were won, degrees were conferred, and students were recognized for their proficiency efforts. Veterans Day Program & Fallen Hero Bridge Dedication

On November 11, 2024, Beresford School District partnered with several South Dakota agencies and veterans' organizations to host a Veterans Day program featuring the SD Fallen Hero Bridge Dedication honoring 1LT Josef L. Thorne. This bridge naming initiative for fallen combat veterans is led by Governor Kristi Noem and multiple state departments.

The ceremony included SDDVA Secretary Greg Whitlock serving as Master of Ceremonies, with color presentation by local American Legion and VFW posts. Dr. Marilyn Carlson Aronson delivered the invocation, while Beresford High School choirs and band provided musical performances. Elementary students led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Bryon Noem delivered the Governor's message. Brian Field spoke on behalf of the Thorne family, and senior Lily Seivert performed taps to conclude the ceremony.

February

The Beresford School District joined districts across the state to thank school board members for their leadership and service to our local school district and community during South Dakota School Board Recognition Week from February 17-21, 2025. District board members are Nathan Jensen (President), Chris Savey (Vice President), Sara DeLay, Dan Erickson, and Ashley Sharpe.

The Beresford FFA Chapter experienced another successful state CDE event. The Beresford FFA Chapter earned a National Chapter Award, students earned scholarships, state officer positions were selected, competitions took place, awards were won, degrees were conferred, and students were recognized for their proficiency efforts.

The Beresford High School National Honor Society inducted 15 new members into its chapter. Inducted members included Emma Andrews, Isabelle Beeson, Sophia Coe, Kate Degen, Addysen Hauck, Payton Johnson, Brock Koth, Danna Sophia Melo Amortegui, Ashlynn Olson, Reese Olson, Grace Rasmussen, Elijah Schaap, Cassandra Schoellerman, Megan Stenen, and Lukas Traxler.

Lily Seivert, Keely Merrigan, Espyn Klungseth, and Aidan Hamm earned a scholarship from the Booster Club. The scholarships were announced during the Booster Club’s annual banquet and celebration.

Elena Andrews (SDSU), Ethan Hauck (SDSU), Max Josko (Concordia College - Moorhead),  Cooper Nelson (Northwestern College), Lily Seivert (College of the Florida Keys) signed letters of intent to have careers in the field of education. Beresford High School Seniors were recognized during a signing event on May 5, 2025.

Elementary, middle, and high school students performed for their parents and community during the week of December 9, 2024. All concerts were well attended.

January

outstanding actors

The One Act cast and crew delivered an outstanding performance of "Rue" by Mancy Conner in Vermillion on January 28, 2025. Receiving perfect scores from all judges they advanced to the State One Act Festival in Brookings. Seven performers—Haley Huot, Hailey Stephens, Max Josko, Ian Andal, Elena Andrews, Sophia Coe, and Jameson Ouimet—earned Outstanding Actor recognition for their exceptional work in the production.

Elena Andrews won the District 7 American Legion Oratorical Contest held on Jan. 12, 2025, in Humboldt, SD. This is the third year Elena has won District 7. District 7 includes any students in the contest from Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha, Moody, or Union Counties.

At the State One Act Festival February 6-8, 2025, Beresford High School achieved remarkable success, earning the prestigious Superior Play award. The production received recognition for Superior Technical Play and Superior Ensemble (Fue Follets). The team also garnered individual honors with Lexy Dobney winning Superior Set Design and Max Josko receiving Superior Marketing Design.

For the third year in a row, a new record for the contest, Elena Andrews, a senior at Beresford High School, has won the State American Legion Oratory Contest held in Chamberlain on Feb. 16, 2025. Laney represented District 7 and competed against five other students throughout the state. Laney won a $1,500 scholarship as this year's winner and will receive another $2,000 upon arriving at the national contest. To date, Elena has won $13,000 from participating in the American Legion Oratory over the last three years.

Josko

Max Josko qualified for the National Speech and Debate Tournament for Student Congress in the Senate. Max is one of two students who will represent the Rushmore District at the National event. At the qualifying contest, Max was one of only four seniors in the state to receive the Rosella Blunk Award in Oral Interp.  This award was named after an outstanding Oral Interp Coach at Sioux Falls Lincoln HS.

Elena Andrews earned a Gold Level award at the Educators Rising state conference on the campus of Dakota State University. She competed in the “Lesson Planning & Delivery” category, which challenged Elena to plan and teach a lesson to students and then reflect on what went well and what could be improved. Her award also qualifies her for the national competition. In addition, Beresford High School was awarded a Bronze Level Outstanding Chapter Award.

Kate Hoesing, Kindra Sveeggen, Max Josko, Ashlynn Rozeboom, Lexy Dobney, Amber Dann, and McKenzie Hebert earned the chance to go to the State Visual Arts Gallery competition at the Aberdeen Recreation & Cultural Center.

The final band and choir concerts bring great music along with awards for outstanding seniors through fine arts.

Max Josko was named the 2025 Outstanding Choral Senior. 

Hailey Huot and Kylie Mockler earned the 2025 National Choral School Award. 

Max Josko earned the 2024-2025 John Phillip Sousa Award for the Beresford High School award. 

McKenzie Hebert was named the 2024-2025 Beresford High School Artist of the Year.

Ella Merriman scored her 1,000th point against the Baltic Bulldogs on December 13, 2024.

Reese Olson

Reese Olson earned her 100th career varsity wrestling win.

February

The girls basketball team season ended against Dakota Valley. The team finished with a 10-11 record.

The boys basketball team's season ended against Dakota Valley. The team finished with a 12-9 record.

Congratulations to our State Wrestlers. Owen Serck (106), Bennett Farley (113), Sebastian Castillo (120), Lillie Boden (100), Reese Olson (138), and Dexton Miller (132) represented RAMS wrestling at State. Owen placed 2nd, Reese placed 4th, and Dexton placed 6th. Our coaches are Brandon Chesnut, Phil Serck,  Michael Schurch, Butch Farley (v), Megan Klentz (v), and Jeremy Coe(v). Andrew Boden was a willing participant to help us on meet days.

The Beresford High School Student Council engaged in servant leadership by organizing a clothing drive before the holidays.

4th grade store

The 4th Grade Store raised over $3,600 to donate to the local community. The groups donated their proceeds to Faith in Action -Angel Tree, Beresford Fire Department, Beresford Ambulance, Bethesda’s Special Activity Fund, Beresford Vet Clinic, Beresford Public Library, and the ML new family fund.

Angela Kennecke

Nurse Nikki Johnson worked with the Beresford Community Outreach for Families and Youth (COYF) group to host “The Broadcast That Broke My Heart” presented by Angela Kennecke. Beresford students and community members learned about the perils of the fentanyl epidemic in our area and across the country.

May

On May 14th, Beresford Middle School and High School hosted its second annual Watchdogs Care event. The day is focused on giving back to the community.

During the Booster Club Athletic Banquet, Dawn Seeley was named the Booster Club’s Volunteer of the Year.
